Hello, Rotake Reuseable!
Denmark goes through nearly 300 million disposable cups each year. Within minutes, these cups find their way into trash cans or end up as litter. In both cases, it becomes waste, never to be used again.
The City of Aarhus is leading a trailblazing effort to reduce plastic usage. In Aarhus, approximately half the waste collected from street cleaning and public waste bins is from takeaway food packaging. To-go cups are one of the top-ranking items – a number that the city is determined to change.
Together with local restaurants and cafes, the City of Aarhus and circular economy experts from TOMRA collaborated to create a new reusable takeaway packaging system designed for the city center. The three-year trial kicked off with the introduction of reusable to-go cups and hopes to expand the offering to include other common types of takeaway food containers.

Rotake Reuseable makes it easy to choose sustainable
Step 1 – order
Order your favorite drink at a participating retailer. You’ll pay a small deposit of 5 kr – don’t worry, you’ll get this money back when you return your cup to one of the numerous reuse collection points.
Step 2 – Enjoy
Enjoy your to-go drinks even more, knowing that Rotake Reuseable packaging is hygienic and doesn’t create unnecessary waste.
Step 3 – Return
Return empty Rotake Reuseable containers to any designated reuse collection point in the city. Use the smart card reader on the machine to refund the deposit amount to your debit/credit card. It can take up to two business days for the money to be returned to your account.
